A hilarious show for anyone who has ever had a really bad day.
It is March 2008. St Martin-in-the-Fields is packed with an expectant audience, blissfully unaware of the panic taking place behind the small door to the left of the stage. Less than thirty minutes to go and the pianist who is to play with the Goldman Ensemble at the prestigious performance has not yet arrived. He is stuck in the mayhem of London traffic, made especially worse by the extensive road works within the city. But the show must go on. Can the concert really go ahead without a pianist? This is the true story that inspired Piano Recital (Piano Not Included).
Piano Recital (Piano Not Included) explores the backstage disasters as well as the daily joys, struggles and attitudes of professional musicians. Written, acted and performed by the Goldman Ensemble, it is packed full of comedy, theatre and well loved music everyone will recognise. After all, what happens when a pianist is booked and a tuba player arrives? And what can be done with a drunken violinist?
Piano Recital (Piano Not Included) premiered at the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2009, where it enjoyed a successful run, following two sell out previews. The show is regularly updated and is currently in its fourth version as audiences return again and again and again.
